| |
| PURPOSE OF THE EVENT 2008 is the fifth year for the Mooresville/South Iredell Exchange Club's “Cotton” Ketchie Arts Festival. The festival was created to bring fine art to the Mooresville/Lake Norman area and to raise funds for the Iredell SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) Centers in Mooresville and Statesville. |
| |
The festival is named in honor of Mooresville native and artist, “Cotton” Ketchie, who is an active member of Mooresville/South Iredell Exchange Club and the Board of Directors of the Child Abuse Prevention Centers. In addition to raising money, it has proven to be a wonderful way to recognize other artisans while bringing art to Mooresville. |
| |
| Proceeds from the “Cotton” Ketchie Arts Festival go to the Iredell SCAN Centers (95%) and the North Carolina Foundation for the Prevention of Child Abuse (5%). In only four years this event has raised $52,000. Last year was a milestone with a whopping $20,000 raised. Thank you for your interest and support in the past, and we look forward to seeing you this year. Together we can make this year’s festival a huge success. |

WHAT IS SCAN? The Exchange Club Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse of Iredell County, Inc. (the Iredell SCAN Center) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. It is independently operated and funded by United Way of Iredell, Mooresville-South Iredell United Way, United Way of Central Carolinas, and area Exchange Clubs. SCAN also relies on individual, business and church donations. |
| |
| SCAN's approach to child abuse prevention is unique. The center relies on trained volunteers to work with families in crisis under the supervision of trained professionals, augmented by parenting classes and parent support groups. In addition, the Parent Aide Program pairs a volunteer with a struggling family to make home visits to foster and facilitate long term behavioral changes, solve problems, and improve parent-child interaction. |
| |
WHAT IS EXCHANGE CLUB? The Exchange Club's focus is the prevention of child abuse, both locally and nationally. The National Exchange Club sponsors SCAN centers across the United States. The National Exchange Club is one of the nation’s oldest civic service clubs, established in 1911. Members across the country work together to make their communities better places to live through programs of service in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Activities, and Exchange Club’s national project, the Prevention of Child Abuse. Exchange Club established the Foundation for the Prevention of Child Abuse in 1979. |
